There was a time when the handyman was tied to the electric power cord and this umbilical cord made certain projects difficult or impractical. Of course, anytime there is a need for a tool there is always someone who will attempt to engineer it and sure enough, the 9.5V cordless drill came out and was snapped up by craftsmen everywhere. While this drill did lack some in power, it certainly freed the handyman from the cord. Hot on its heels the 18V cordless drill has made its debut, and with all that extra power it made quite a splash.
It has been mentioned before that the battery packs on cordless drills tend to last only a few years, or something like 250 charges. This might be a problem, but it seems that every time a battery pack is about to wear out a bigger and better cordless driver and drill is released and the problem is solved by buying the newest model. That might have been true for a while, but the fact is that eventually the drill reaches an optimum size and power output and batteries improve, and then there really is no need to upgrade unless you just want to.
Dewalt 18V Cordless
Now almost any corded drill will out power even an 18v cordless model, but then again, the 18v models will usually have all the power needed to do the ordinary jobs around the house that formerly were almost impossible. No more stringing what seems like miles of extension cord with these the cordless drills. The cordless driver and drill is to many home repair enthusiasts and craftsmen, the best thing since sliced bread and surely makes completing a project or making repairs much easier.
While there are larger and more powerful cordless drills out on the market now, the 18V seems to be a great medium point. It certainly can do almost any job required of it and depending upon the model comes with some handy accessories and a very short charge cycle. In some cases the drill can be charged up and ready to go again in as little as 20 minutes.
There are compact models of the 18V drills available as well as nearly full size drills. The choice is up to the individual and depends on what feels best in the hand and how tight the spaces are that the craftsman works in usually. Someone who is always wiggling their drill around to fit it into very cramped quarters may well prefer a compact sized drill to a full sized one.
There are possibly as many brands of cordless drills on the market as there are power tool manufacturers. While some brands certainly come with a lot more accessories and extras, the basic models do the job for the budget conscious craftsman. On the other hand, there are few handymen who would turn down the most expensive drill on the market either.
When it comes to selecting just the right new cordless drill then a trip to the store could be well worth the time. The type of battery and the warranty are important when choosing a drill, but the way it fits in the hand is equally important to some. 18V cordless drill prices have come down drastically and now may well be the perfect time to add some mobility and power to your power drill.
